Abstract:

This rule would clarify the scope of 18 U.S.C. 926A to make clear that, for the purposes of interstate transportation of a firearm, any activities incidental to the original transportation, including but not limited to staying in temporary lodging overnight, stopping for food, fuel, vehicle maintenance, an emergency, medical treatment, and transiting between modes of transportation are considered transport are within the scope of activities protected by the Gun Control Act provisions that address interstate transport of firearms. The proposed rule also provides the requirements for securing firearms or ammunition during activities incidental to the interstate transportation of firearms.
