DOJ/ATF RIN: 1140-AA89 Publication ID: 2026
Title: ●Interstate Transport and Temporary Export of National Firearms Act Weapons
Abstract:

The rule proposes to amend the notification requirements when persons plan to transport firearms registered under the NFA in interstate commerce. Because the existing process adds time burden and transportation/planning uncertainties for persons wishing to transport their NFA-registered firearms outside the state in which they reside on a short-term basis, authorizing such persons to transport their firearms without first submitting a request to ATF or waiting for ATF approval would be expected to prevent the affected individuals from delaying their travel in order to await final approval, or to complete their travel without their NFA items. In addition, the proposed rule would also reduce the burden and planning uncertainties for persons who transport their NFA items for long-term or permanent change in location.
