| Title: ●Firearms Records Retention Periods | |
|
Abstract:
The proposed notice of proposed rulemaking would establish how long federal firearms licensees must retain paper and electronic firearms acquisition and disposition (A&D) records. It would also establish in ATF regulations the length of time the National Tracing Center (NTC) would retain firearms records it receives. The proposed change would require that licensees retain firearms A&D records and other records, such as the Form 4473, for no less than 20 years [or 30 years] after they sell or otherwise dispose of the firearm and require that ATF's Out-of-Business Records Center at the NTC also retain out-of-business firearms transaction records for no more than 20 years [or 30 years] after it receives the records. |
