| Title: ●Updates to Respiratory Protection Requirements in Chemical-specific Standards | |
|
Abstract:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) intends to update the respiratory protection requirements contained in several chemical-specific standards to better align with the general respiratory protection standard (29 CFR 1910.134). The action will allow employers to use new and improved respiratory protection that may not have existed at the time the chemical-specific standards were promulgated. This action will be deregulatory and / or burden reducing to employers whose employees wish to have more variety in choices for devices, which may result in lower cost alternative devices. This rulemaking is consistent with the intent of Executive Order 14219 (Ensuring Lawful Governance and Implementing the President's "Department of Government Efficient Deregulatory Initiative) because the agency has good cause to believe that the existing regulation significantly and unjustifiably impedes technological innovation and economic development. By modernizing the existing regulation, OSHA will allow increased productivity and reduce the regulatory burden on employers with workers who wear respiratory protection. |
