Title: Traffic Separation Schemes in the Strait of Juan De Fuca and Its Approaches; in Puget Sound and Its Approaches; in Haro Strait, Boundary Pass; and in the Strait of Georgia
Abstract: This rulemaking may propose to amend the existing traffic separation schemes (TSS): in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and its approaches; in Puget Sound and its approaches; in Haro Strait, Boundary Pass, and in the Strait of Georgia. These amendments currently appear on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration navigation charts, in International Maritime Organization's "Ships' Routeing," and have been validated by several recent vessel routing studies. With the amendments in place, commercial vessels would be routed farther offshore when entering or departing the TSS, providing an extra margin of safety and environmental protection in the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary and adjacent waters. This rulemaking will incorporate the modified TSS into the Code of Federal Regulations. This project supports the Coast Guard's broad roles and responsibilities of maritime safety and maritime stewardship.
