| Title: Inland Navigation Rules | |
| Abstract: In section 303 of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Authorization Act of 2004 (Pub. L. 108-293), Congress repealed section 2 of the Inland Navigational Rules Act of 1980 (33 U.S.C. 2001 to 2038) and amended section 3 to give the Secretary of the Department in which the Coast Guard is operating authority to issue inland navigation regulations. Therefore, through this project we would create a new 33 CFR part 83 for the inland navigation rules. The old sections of 33 U.S.C. would be moved to part 83 without change. Through this action, we seek to make the inland navigation rules easier to maintain and more accessible to the public. At this time, we expect no changes in industry behavior or additional costs as a result of this rulemaking. | |
