DOE/EE RIN: 1904-AC05 Publication ID: Spring 2011
Title: Test Procedures for Electric Motors
Abstract: Section 302 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to require that test procedures for all covered products (including electric motors) be reviewed at least once every seven years. The test procedure amendments for electric motors were originally bundled with the test procedure for small electric motors in a NPRM published on December 22, 2008 (73 FR 78220). To ensure that a consent decree deadline was met, DOE decided to publish a final test procedure for small electric motors on July 7, 2009 (74 FR 32059). As part of that notice, DOE indicated that it had left open certain technical issues raised in response to the NPRM to be addressed in a supplemental NPRM to be issued later. DOE issued this supplemental NPRM, covering test procedures for both small electric motors and electric motors, on January 5, 2011 (76 FR 648).
