DOE/EE RIN: 1904-AC07 Publication ID: Spring 2011
Title: Energy Efficiency Standards for Microwave Ovens (Standby and Off Mode)
Abstract: DOE published a NPRM for microwave ovens on October 17, 2008 (73 FR 62034), and a final rule on April 8, 2009 (74 FR 16040). In the NPRM, DOE proposed establishing energy conservation standards for standby mode and off mode. The April 2009 final rule did not contain standards for microwave ovens in these modes because a revised test procedure for microwave ovens was not finalized. DOE is continuing the microwave oven test procedure rulemaking and is revisiting the energy conservation standard rulemaking to consider whether standards for microwaves ovens in standby-mode and off-mode are technologically feasible and economically justified.
