Title: Test Procedures for Variable Refrigerant Flow Multi-Split Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps
Abstract:

Consistent with the requirements under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), as amended, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has amended the current test procedures for variable refrigerant flow (VRF) multi-split air conditioners and heat pumps (VRF multi-split systems), which are categories of commercial package air conditioning and heating equipment found at 10 CFR 431.96. DOE amended the test procedure to incorporate by reference the lasted version of the applicable industry standard. The final rule also adopted the integrated energy efficiency ratio metric in its test procedure for VRF multi- systems. Additionally, this final rule adopted provisions in the updated industry test procedure relevant to certification and enforcement, including a controls verification procedure. Now completed, this rulemaking fulfills DOE’s statutory obligation to either propose amended test procedures for this equipment or determine that the existing test procedures do not need to be amended.
