Title: National Primary Drinking Water Regulations: Radon 
Abstract:

In 1999, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed regulations for radon that provide flexibility in how to manage the health risks from radon in drinking water. The proposal was based on the unique framework in the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The proposed regulation would provide for either a maximum contaminant level (MCL) or an alternative maximum contaminant level (AMCL) with a multimedia mitigation (MMM) program to address radon in indoor air. Under the proposal, public water systems in states that adopted qualifying MMM programs would be subject to the AMCL, while those in states that did not adopt such programs would be subject to the MCL.
