Title: Revisions to Select Microbial and Disinfection Byproducts (MDBP) Rules
Abstract:

The EPA is evaluating whether to propose revisions to the microbial and disinfection byproducts (MDBP) rules, as authorized under the Safe Drinking Water Act, to further improve public health protection from MDBP contaminants in drinking water or to reduce the regulatory burden while maintaining or improving public health protection. In May 2022, the EPA initiated a working group under the National Drinking Water Advisory Council (NDWAC) on potential MDBP rules revisions. The EPA received recommendations from the NDWAC in late 2023 and is considering them as it evaluates potential regulatory revisions. As part of a settlement agreement with Waterkeeper et al. (Waterkeeper Alliance, 2020), the EPA will either propose revised MDBP rules by July 2027 and take final action on the proposed revisions by October 2028 or announce a decision not to make revisions.
