Title: ●Uniform National Discharge Standards (UNDS) for Vessels of the Armed Forces - Phase II – Batch Three
Abstract:

CWA section 312(n) directs the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Defense to establish uniform national standards for discharges incidental to the normal operation of a vessel of the Armed Forces. The discharge standards are intended to reduce the adverse environmental impacts associated with the discharges, advance the development of environmentally sound ships responsible for national security, and ensure that military operations are not limited by a patchwork of state-by-state requirements. The EPA and DoD are establishing discharge standards through batch rulemakings. This rulemaking would establish discharge standards for the following three discharges: clean ballast, compensated fuel ballast, and dirty ballast.
