Title: ●High Production Volume (HPV) Chemicals; Third Group of Chemicals
Abstract: High production volume (HPV) chemicals are manufactured (including imported) in the aggregate at more than 1 million pounds on an annual basis. Under section 4(a)(1)(B) of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), EPA is establishing testing and recordkeeping requirements for 29 chemicals identified in the 2010 proposed rule. This test rule is one in a series of rules, addressing what EPA refers to as the third group of chemicals identified under the HPV Program. The testing may vary based on the specific data needs identified for the particular chemical to which it applies, but the data generally collected under this rule includes: acute toxicity, repeat dose toxicity, developmental and reproductive toxicity, mutagenicity, ecotoxicity, and environmental fate. Data developed under this rule will provide critical information about the environmental fate and potential hazards associated with these chemicals which, when combined with information about exposure and uses, will allow the Agency and others to evaluate potential health and environmental risks and to take appropriate follow-up action.
