| Title: Implementation of the Commercial Fishing-Industry Vessel Safety Act (CGD 88-079) | |
| Abstract: The Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety Act of 1988 requires the Secretary of Transportation to prescribe regulations for certain safety equipment and vessel operating procedures. A final rule establishing requirements for navigation, radio, firefighting and lifesaving equipment, fuel, ventilation, and electrical systems was published in August, 1991. In August, 1992, an interim rule established immersion suit requirements. In May, 1993, regulations for immersion suits on vessels operating on seasonally cold waters were also proposed. Lifesaving equipment and instructor qualifications were addressed in a separate rule under RIN 2115-AF35. This project supports the Coast Guard's strategic goal of safety. The issues which remain concern damage stability and immersion suits. The Coast Guard intends to terminate this docket, and create a new docket to resolve the remaining issues. | |
