View Rule

The standards identified in the title assume a human driver and require sun visors for compliance with the standard. This update will address the requirements for vehicles equipped with automated driving systems (ADS) that lack manually operated driving controls. The updates will be developed to maintain the level of safety performance currently required by the standards. This rule would update FMVSS No. 201 to except ADS-equipped vehicles without manually operated driving controls from the requirement for sun visors, and update FMVSS No. 208 to clarify the appropriate placement of certain safety warning labels in vehicles without sun visors. These vehicles would still be required to comply with all other aspects of the standards.
