| Title: State Safety Oversight | |
| Abstract: This rulemaking would amend the existing state safety oversight rule to bring it into conformity with SAFETEA-LU and to make other changes. The rule would establish a uniform safety standard for public transportation agencies that operate a rail system in more than one state, and would authorize State Safety Oversight Agencies to begin the oversight process during the design of a rail fixed guideway system, rather than waiting until the commencement of revenue service. The rule would also address recommendations from the National Transportation Safety Board concerning recommended equipment and personnel standards for rail operators. | |
