Title: Hazardous Materials: Compatibility With the Regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (RRR) 
Abstract:

This rulemaking amended the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) for the transportation of Class 7 (radioactive materials) based on recent changes contained in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations. This rulemaking aligned the HMR with the international standards, and updated, clarified, corrected, and provided relief of certain regulatory requirements applicable to the transportation of radioactive materials.

Additional Information: PHMSA-2009-0063; HM-250; SB - Y, IC - N, SLT - N; PHMSA initiated this rulemaking to harmonize with NRC and reduce regulatory burden. NRC's NPRM published May 16, 2013. PHMSA has coordinated with NRC to develop the final rule. Annualized cost estimate ranging from $161 thousand to $487 thousand over a 5-year period at a 3 percent discount rate. This rulemaking may result in a decrease in the annual burden and costs of OMB Control Number 2137-0034 due to reductions in the shipping paper requirements for excepted quantities of RAM shipments.
