Title: Import Regulations Regarding Sampling, Examination, Reconditioning, and Refusal of Admission of Products Imported Into the United States
Abstract:

Section 17 of the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA) and section 14 of the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA) contain provisions relating to the sampling, examination, reconditioning, and refusal of admission of products imported or offered for import into the United States. Current regulations governing the administration of imports are found at 16 CFR 1500.265 et seq. These regulations were promulgated in 1972 (38 FR 27012, Sept. 27, 1973, as amended at 57 FR 28605, June 26, 1992) and do not reflect current operational reality. Staff began preparing for Commission consideration a proposed rule that would replace the current regulations governing imports and contain a new part dedicated solely to import procedures. However, this rulemaking is not in the Commission's plans at this time.
