Title: 911 Reliability (PS Docket No. 13-75) (PS Docket No. 13-75)
Abstract: The Federal Communications Commission adopted a range of approaches to ensure that providers of 911 communications services implemented best practices and other sound engineering principles to improve the reliability and resiliency of the nation's 911 networks. The order amended the Commission's current rules to clarify and add specificity to service providers' obligations to notify 911 call centers of communications outages. This action follows an inquiry and NPRM by the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau into widespread 911 service outages during the June 2012 Derecho storm.
