Title: Rules for Filming, Photographing, or Videotaping on NARA Property for Personal Use | |
Abstract:
The recommendation is to make some slight text adjustments to 36 CFR 1280.46, to allow personal photography in the exhibition galleries, and to continue to prohibit photography in the Rotunda. To enhance visitor experience, raise awareness of our mission, and maintain preservation and security needs, NARA is proposing to revise the photography policy to allow non-flash photography throughout most of the museum. Photography of the display of the founding documents in the Rotunda will continue to be prohibited to maintain smooth visitor flow through that highly trafficked space. However, visitors will be encouraged to take selfies and other photographs that include the Rotunda as background. Research shows the majority of museums allow non-flash photography. It is scientifically supported to not put items on display at increased risk, and is a benefit to the public in enhancing access to our holdings. |
