| Title: Regulatory Improvements for Production and Utilization Facilities Transitioning to Decommissioning [NRC-2015-0070] | |
|
Abstract:
This rulemaking would amend NRC's regulations to provide an appropriate regulatory framework for nuclear power reactors transitioning to decommissioning. The goals of this rulemaking are to maintain a safe, effective, and efficient decommissioning process; reduce license amendment requests and exemptions; address other relevant decommissioning issues; and support the NRC's Principles of Good Regulation. The rulemaking would address lessons learned from licensees that have completed or are currently in the decommissioning process. The rulemaking would align regulatory requirements with the reduction in risk that occurs over time, while maintaining safety and security. This rulemaking scope would affect production and utilization facilities. The NRC engaged the public through an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking and several public meetings. |
