| Title: Nonforeign Area Cost-Of-Living Allowances; Hawaii and Guam | |
| Abstract: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) proposed to change the cost-of-living allowance (COLA) rates received by certain white-collar Federal and U.S. Postal Service employees in the Pacific and Alaska COLA areas. The proposed rate changes were the result of adjustments OPM calculated in 2008 based on relative Consumer Price Index differences. The proposed regulations would have reduced the COLA rates for the Pacific areas and Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, Alaska, by 1 percentage point. Because the Nonforeign Area Retirement Equity Assurance Act passed and was signed into law in October 2009 thereby freezing COLA rates then in effect, OPM will withdraw the proposed rule. | |
