DOT/FMCSA RIN: 2126-AA22 Publication ID: Fall 2003
Title: Unified Registration System
Abstract: This action is required by section 103 of the ICC Termination Act of 1995 (49 USC 13908). FMCSA is proposing to replace four current identification and registration systems--the USDOT identification number system, the single-State registration system, the registration/licensing system, and the financial responsibility system--with a single, online Federal system. This action is intended to consolidate and simplify current Federal registration processes and to increase public accessibility to data about interstate and foreign motor carriers, property brokers, and freight forwarders. This action is considered significant because of substantial industry and congressional interest.
