Title: Designation of Critical Habitat for the North Atlantic Right Whale
Abstract:

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) proposes to revise the critical habitat designation for the North Atlantic right whale. This proposal would result in a significant expansion of critical habitat in the northeast feeding area (Gulf of Maine-Georges Bank region) and the southeast calving area (Florida to North Carolina) compared to what was designated in 1994 for right whales. NMFS has contacted the Departments of the Navy, Air Force, and Army, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security requesting information related to potential national security impacts related to critical habitat designation. Based on information provided, we have concluded that there will be no national security impacts associated with the designation of critical habitat.
