Title: ●Rule to Modify Greater Amberjack Allowable Harvest and Rebuilding Plan in the Gulf of Mexico | |
Abstract:
This rule would adjust the Gulf of Mexico greater amberjack rebuilding plan, modify through 2020--based on information from the 2017 stock assessment that indicated that the stock is not making adequate progress towards rebuilding--greater amberjack annual catch limits and annual catch targets (which equal the quotas) for both the commercial and recreational fisheries. The modifications are projected to rebuild the stock by 2027. In addition, the rule would change the recreational seasonal closure from June through July each year to January 1 through June 30 each year. This change would protect the stock during peak spawning and extend the season later in the fishing year, leading to a more reliable open season. |
