Title: ●Renewable Fuel Standard Program; Grain Sorghum Oil Pathway | |
Abstract:
In action, EPA is providing an opportunity to comment on an analysis of the lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with certain biofuels that are produced from grain sorghum oil extracted at dry mill ethanol plants at any point downstream from sorghum grinding, provided that the oil is rendered unfit for food uses without further refining, and the oil extraction results in distillers grains marketable as animal feed (distillers sorghum oil”). In the November 16, 2016, Renewables Enhancement and Growth Support (REGS) rule, EPA proposed to amend the definitions of non-food grade corn oil” and corn oil extraction,” which are used in, or relevant to, the regulatory table of approved pathways for renewable fuel production. The amended definitions would allow distillers corn oil to be used for the production of specified biofuels. Based on new information described in this proposed rule, EPA is seeking comment on whether distillers sorghum oil should be treated similarly to distillers corn oil, and whether the production of certain additional renewable fuel types made from distillers sorghum oil should be approved as a pathway. |
