DOT/FMCSA RIN: 2126-AB97 Publication ID: Fall 2017
Title: Process for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Physicians to be Added to the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners
Abstract:

This rulemaking would amend the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations to establish a process for qualified physicians employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs to be eligible for listing on the Agency's National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. This action is required by section 5403 of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act, which requires the Secretary of Transportation, in consultation with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, to develop such a process. This change would allow veterans to receive physicals required for commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) from VA physicians, reducing the cost of acquiring and maintaining CDLs for veterans eligible for VA care.
