Title: Hearings Held by Administrative Appeals Judges of the Appeals Council | |
Abstract:
We will propose that administrative appeals judges (AAJ) from our Appeals Council will hold hearings and issue decisions in disability determination cases, whereas currently only Administrative Law Judges (ALJ) perform these actions. We will propose and solicit public comment on the circumstances under which we propose for AAJs to conduct hearings and issue decisions, the manner in which we will assign AAJs to complete these actions, and on the anticipated benefits and concerns of this proposal. We would publish a final rule addressing public comments before implementing this proposed policy. |
