Title: Special Use--Vegetation Management in Utility Corridors
Abstract:

The 2018 Consolidated Appropriations Act amended the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, 43 U.S.C. 1772, creating section 512, which directs the Forest Service (and the Bureau of Land Management) to standardize and expedite review and approval of power line rights-of-way operating plans.  Based on the new FLPMA provisions, the Forest Service will publish a final rule to amend 36 CFR part 251, subpart B, to provide Agency-wide criteria for development of plans for vegetation management and routine maintenance within power line rights-of-way. Operational boundaries for vegetation work established within the rule will allow for vegetation pilot projects beyond rights-of-way, as directed in the 2018 Farm Bill.
