Title: Fishery Disaster Determinations and Assistance Under the Magnuson Stevens Act and Interjurisdictional Fisheries Act | |
Abstract:
This rulemaking action proposes to provide greater clarity and improved consistency to accelerate the timeline for making fishery disaster determinations under the Magnuson Stevens Act and Interjurisdictional Fisheries Act, and establish guidelines for administering awards. This rulemaking may include deadlines for key steps in the fishery disaster determination process, clarification of the funding process, incentives for recipients to carry insurance, required documentation of loss, cost sharing by states, and prioritization of the long-term sustainability of the fishery. These changes aim to accelerate the government’s responsiveness to fishery disaster requests, ensuring that appropriated funds are distributed to affected communities more quickly. |
