Title: ●Marine Mammals; Incidental Take During Specified Activities; Polar Bears and Pacific Walruses in the Southern Beaufort Sea and Adjacent Alaskan Coast | |
Abstract:
The Marine Mammal Protection Act authorizes issuance of regulations to allow the incidental, unintentional take of small number of marine mammals in activities (other than commercial fishing) in specific geographical areas. Industry may request such regulations, which shall be allowed as long as certain findings are made. The Alaska Oil and Gas Association has requested these regulations, which would authorize incidental take of polar bears and Pacific walrus in the Southern Beaufort Sea and adjacent northern coast of Alaska during oil and gas industry activities for a 5-year period. |
