Title: Revisions to DOE's NEPA Regulations | |
Abstract:
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will update its National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) implementing procedures at 10 CFR part 1021. DOE will propose to update several procedural provisions of the regulations in order to improve efficiency and flexibility. These changes would, for example, remove certain provisions that DOE included in its regulations in 1992 that are not required by the Council on Environmental Quality’s regulations for implementing the procedural provisions of NEPA at 40 CFR parts 1500 to 1508. DOE will also propose to revise several of its categorical exclusions, contained in subpart D, appendices A and B, to reflect the Department’s current understanding of the potential environmental impacts of certain types of proposed actions. A categorical exclusion is a category of actions that DOE has determined do not individually or cumulatively have significant impacts and, therefore, normally do not require an environmental impact statement or an environmental assessment. DOE last updated its NEPA regulations in 2011. |
