Title: Improving Efficiency of Long Term Care Facilities Through DEA Registration | |
Abstract:
DEA is considering the revision of regulations relating to the dispensing and disposal of controlled substances in Long Term Care Facilities (LTCFs). In particular, DEA is considering whether LTCFs should become DEA registrants. The rule also will solicit comments regarding the clarification of certain definitions and proposals to change the name of several terms, including changing of the name of the term LTCF to Long Term Care Facility-Hospital (LTCFH). DEA is considering a proposal that LTCFHs utilize chart/medication orders instead of the current prescription process. DEA also is considering the introduction of a more streamlined relationship between pharmacies and LTCFHs, including reporting requirements with respect to nurses authorized and certified to transmit and communicate controlled substance chart orders to pharmacies. The rule also will solicit comments on a proposal to clarify the status of ADS machines and Emergency Kits within the regulations. In addition, the rule will consider revisions addressing the use of "one-to-one” agency agreements between individual practitioners and nurses. |
