Title: Wildlife and Fisheries; Clean Vessel Act Grant Program | |
Abstract:
We propose to update regulations that tell States how to apply for and receive grants under the Clean Vessel Act program. The program provides funds for States to install facilities for boaters to dispose of septic waste from vessels with holding tanks, and to provide information and education on the use, location, and benefits of pump-out facilities. Public Law 109-59 (August 10, 2005) amended the Clean Vessel Act. In 2008, the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council, a Federal advisory group, made 30 recommendations for improving the program in the areas of administration, reporting, funding, project maintenance, and operation. The Service is working with a Federal/State team and the States Organization for Boating Access in identifying areas for improvement that will assist States in completing successful projects. |
