Title: Amend FMVSS No. 141 to allow Driver-Selectable Vehicle Sounds
Abstract: This notice sought comment on the Quiet Vehicle safety standard FMVSS No. 141, Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, to allow driver-selectable sounds. Specifically, so that hybrid and electric vehicles could be equipped with a suite of up to five pedestrian alert sounds from which a driver may select a preference. Since publication of the NPRM, NHTSA has decided that changed circumstances warrant its withdrawal.
