Title: Special Immigrant Juvenile Petitions
Abstract:

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a final rule on March 8, 2022, 87 FR 13066 to amend its regulations governing the Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) classification and related applications for adjustment of status to lawful permanent resident. Special Immigrant Juvenile classification is a humanitarian-based immigration classification for children who a State court has found cannot be reunified with one or both parents because of abuse, neglect, abandonment, or a similar basis found under State law, and meet certain other criteria. This final rule implemented updates to eligibility requirements and other changes made by the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, Public Law 110-457, as well as responded to comments received on the proposed rule in 2011 and in 2019 when the comment period was reopened.
