Title: 49 CFR Part 576 Record Retention 
Abstract:

This notice proposes to amend 49 CFR section 576.5 to require that manufacturers retain certain records containing information concerning defects and malfunctions that may be related to motor vehicle safety and all underlying records on which information reported under 49 CFR part 579 is based for not less than 10 years. This notice would also amend 49 CFR part 576 to establish new classes of records required to be retained. This rulemaking complies with the requirements in FAST Act section 24403 and will assist NHTSA's investigations of possible defects related to motor vehicle safety or of nonconformity to the safety standards and regulations.
