Title: Pacific Island Pelagic Fisheries; Exemption for Longline Vessels to Fish in Portions of the Large Vessel Prohibited Area in American Samoa | |
Abstract:
Current Federal regulations prohibit large U.S. vessels (equal to or greater than 50 ft) from fishing for pelagic management unit species within the American Samoa "large vessel prohibited area" (from the shoreline to approx. 50 nautical miles offshore). This action would implement a recommendation by the Western Pacific Fishery Management Council to allow those large vessels to fish in certain areas of the LVPA (beyond approx. 12-27 nautical miles from the shoreline), and to modify some boundaries of the LVPA. |
