Title: Remote Application Processing of Identity and Lawful Status Information for REAL ID Purposes 
Abstract:

Under the REAL ID Modernization Act, a State may remotely accept identity and lawful status information under the REAL ID Program (i.e., from an applicant for a driver’s license or identification card) through the use of digital transmission methods if:  (1) The Secretary of Homeland Security issues regulations regarding such digital transmission that (a) describe the categories of information eligible for remote digital transmission and (b) include measures to ensure the authenticity of the information transmitted, to protect personally identifiable information, and to detect and prevent identity fraud; and (2) the State certifies to the Department of Homeland Security that its use of such remote digital methods complies with regulations issued by the Secretary.  DHS is developing regulations to implement this authority.
