Title: Amendment to Update Office Title Associated With the Department of Energy Realignment
Abstract:

In February 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) updated the agency's internal structure so that the Office of Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) now reports to the Deputy Secretary of Energy rather than an Under Secretary of DOE.  Accordingly, DOE has updated the title of the head of EHSS from Associate Undersecretary for Environment, Health, Safety & Security to Director, Office of Environment, Health, Safety & Security. Likewise, the titles of two officials that report to the EHSS Director have also been updated. The Deputy Associate Under Secretary for Environment, Health, and Safety is now the Deputy Director for Environment, Health, and Safety. The Deputy Associate Under Secretary for Security is now the Deputy Director for Security. DOE is also removing the reference to an obsolete part of the Office of Hearings and Appeals procedural regulations cited in its regulations.

The Department plans on administratively amending 10 CFR parts 602, 710, 712, 835, 850, 851, 1016, 1017, 1045, and 1046 to reflect these title changes. Additional amendments are made to 10 CFR part 851 to distinguish the EHSS Director from the Director of Enforcement. Finally, the rule also updates the title of the Under Secretary for Science and Innovation at 10 CFR 851.3 and 10 CFR 1046.2 and the title of the Under Secretary for Infrastructure at 10 CFR 851.3.
