DOT/FHWA RIN: 2125-AF94 Publication ID: Fall 2022
Title: Vehicle Size and Weight
Abstract: This rulemaking would amend FHWA's regulations in 23 CFR 657 and 658 governing vehicles subject to 23 U.S.C. 127 and 49 U.S.C. 31111 – 31112. This action is necessary to remove regulations that are a verbatim restatement of Federal statute, and fix several conflicting regulations. In addition, FHWA will propose a change to its regulations regarding additions, deletions, exceptions, and restrictions on the National Network at 23 CFR 658.11 to add procedures for removal of portions of roadway from the Interstate system that are proposed for reclassification but will continue to be part of the National Network. Finally, FHWA will propose to reduce the reporting burdens for State Enforcement Plans submitted by States and the corresponding Annual Evaluation Review Reporting by FHWA from one to three years.
