Title: Removal of Exclusion of Gender Alterations From the Medical Benefits Package
Abstract: The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is proposing to revise its medical regulations by removing the exclusion on gender alterations from the medical benefits package. VA is proposing these changes so that transgender and gender diverse veterans may receive medically necessary health care, including surgical interventions for gender transition. This proposed change would be consistent with medical industry standards and would ensure that VA provides a full continuum of care to transgender and gender diverse veterans.
