Title: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: Revisions for Technical Changes to Address Equity | |
Abstract:
This proposed rule would modernize terminology used in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) regulations at 7 CFR 271, 7 CFR 272, 7 CFR 273, 7 CFR 274, and 7 CFR 278 to be more inclusive and equitable, consistent with the Executive Order on Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government (EO 13985). These technical changes would remove stigmatizing terminology and utilize person-first language without changing SNAP policy. Planned stakeholder engagement may include advocacy organizations and SNAP outreach organizations who work with individuals applying for SNAP. Communities affected would be low-income individuals eligible for SNAP who fall into one of the many groups described in the regulation (e.g., older adults, persons experiencing homelessness). |
