Title: Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Threatened Species Status With Section 4(d) Rule for the Northwestern Pond Turtle and the Southwestern Pond Turtle | |
Abstract:
FWS proposes to list the northwestern pond turtle (Actinemys marmorata) and the southwestern pond turtle (Actinemys pallida) as threatened species with rules issued under section 4(d) of the Endangered Species Act (Act). The northwestern pond turtle is found in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and northern and central California. The southwestern pond turtle is found in California and parts of Mexico. FWS determined that designating critical habitat for these species is prudent but was not determinable at the time of publication of the proposed rule. The Act allows the Service an additional year to publish a critical habitat designation that is not determinable at the time of listing. |
