Title: National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP): Hospital Ethylene Oxide Sterilizers Risk and Technology Review
Abstract:

The EPA Promulgated National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP): Hospital Ethylene Oxide (EtO) Sterilizers on December 28, 2007. The Hospital EtO sterilizer NESHAP applies to new and existing hospital EtO sterilizers that emit hazardous air pollutants and are area sources within the meaning of Clean Air Act section 112(a)(2). The standards require affected sources submit an Initial Notification of Compliance Status; there are no ongoing reporting requirements. This action will address the EPA’s review of the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) in 40 CFR part 63 subpart WWWWW. This action will implement the technology review requirements of CAA section 112(d)(6) and will also consider risk as part of the rulemaking to determine whether the agency should conduct a residual risk review during the rulemaking. This risk consideration is part of the agency response to the Office of Inspector General Draft report “EPA Should Conduct New Residual Risk and Technology Reviews for Chloroprene- and Ethylene Oxide-Emitting Source Categories to Protect Human Health.”
