Title: Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification | |
Abstract:
This rule will amend numerous provisions concerning aircraft that hold special airworthiness certificates and airman that operate and maintain those aircraft. Specifically, this rule will expand the scope of aircraft that may be certificated as light-sport aircraft (LSA), increasing margins for incorporation of safety-enhancing designs, increasing the overall robustness of LSA, enabling a more useful load for fuel and passengers, enabling electric propulsion, and other performance enhancements. This rule will meet a Congressional mandate to enable space support vehicles to obtain an experimental certificate for commercial operations without an air carrier certificate or exemption. |
