Abstract:
The proposed regulations will amend certain provisions of the early warning reporting (EWR) rule. The EWR rule requires certain manufacturers of motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment to submit information to NHTSA. 49 CFR part 579, subpart C. The proposed amendments will implement changes in the scope, scale, formats and methods of EWR data collection to enhance the Agency’s ability to identify safety defects more quickly and reliably. The proposed amendments were identified in a study of EWR data collection improvements that was required by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (the Act), enacted on November 15, 2021. |
