Title: ●Hazardous Materials: Enhancing Safety for High-Hazard Trains (HHTs) | |
Abstract:
The Federal hazardous materials transportation law authorizes the Secretary of Transportation to prescribe regulations for the safe transportation, including security, of hazardous materials in intrastate, interstate, and foreign commerce (49 U.S.C. 5103(b)). In this rulemaking, PHMSA will amend the Hazardous Materials Regulations to implement regulatory requirements and operational controls on a larger set of newly-designated High-Hazard Trains thus ensuring more stringent standards for more classes of hazardous materials than railroads currently follow. |
