Title: Safety Standard and Notification Requirements for Button Cell or Coin Batteries and Consumer Products Containing Such Batteries | |
Abstract:
CPSC is aware of fatal and nonfatal incidents involving children ingesting button and coin batteries. Reese’s Law, signed August 16, 2022, directs the Commission to, "Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act promulgate a final consumer product safety standard for button cell or coin batteries and consumer products containing button cell or coin batteries.” In accordance with the law, the Commission published in the Federal Register a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on February 9, 2023. The NPRM addresses hazards associated with children accessing and ingesting button and coin batteries used in certain consumer products. Staff will submit a determination briefing package for Commission consideration in fiscal year 2023. |
