Title: Performance-Based Emergency Core Cooling System Acceptance Criteria [NRC-2008-0332]
Abstract:

This rulemaking would amend the NRC's regulations to update the fuel cladding acceptance criteria for emergency core cooling system loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) evaluations. The rule would establish new emergency core cooling system acceptance criteria that are performance-based and reflect research findings that identified new embrittlement mechanisms for fuel rods with zirconium alloy cladding under LOCA conditions. The scope of this rulemaking would affect nuclear power reactor licensees. The rulemaking addresses two petitions for rulemaking (PRM-50-71 and PRM-50-84).
